“We are all streams of a single water.” (R. Zurita)
Between June 7th and July 20th, 2022, accompanied by the psychoanalyst Celeste Reyna, Marco Noris carried out a walking journey from the delta of the Ebro to the source of the Segre in the French Cerdanya. The journey lasted 44 days, during which the couple walked 750 km and crossed 5 provinces and 9 different regions, 8 of them Catalan.
Sequere is an artistic project about time and memory, which begins with a symbolic act: collecting water at the mouth of the Ebro and walking upstream to return it to the source of the Segre, the main tributary of the Ebro. The gaze of the walkers and their bodies crossing space and time have been the instruments to activate a poetic reading of the territory: the experiences along the route and the traversed space, with its geography, its place names, its cities, and its mountains, constitute the trigger for an investigation into historical memory, human relationships, and the territory. Each unique encounter during the journey added to the act and gradually became, as the walkers progressed, a collective experience in which the water symbolically absorbed the history of the territory.
With the memory of the water, its journey, its tributaries, and the lands traversed, they delivered everything that, updated in history from the present, speaks to us and challenges us: war, climate change, internal and external migrations, neoliberal exploitation of the territory, the disappearance of rural culture... In throwing that water imbued with memory, they have constructed a collective poetic gesture that aims to renew and transform what is cyclically repeated in time and history; a gesture that attempts to repair some segment of humanity's memory that still holds open wounds.
Sequere is a project by Marco Noris in collaboration with Celeste Reyna, produced by the Institut d'Estudis Ilerdencs / Diputació de Lleida (all credits).
